What is a healing chant / sound?
Sounds are powerful when we allow our voices freedom. We can use sounds to both release and invite in emotions.
Chanting, unlike singing lyrics, focuses more on sounds rather than words and can be uniquely freeing and expressive.
The healing chants and sounds practice I teach is not a replacement for therapy or counseling. It is also not a traditional voice or music class. No music or singing experience is necessary. If you are looking for a voice class where you can learn musical theory, notes, and scales, I’d be happy to refer you to some of the wonderful teachers I’ve worked with.
What I teach and offer is an additional tool in your healing toolbox. I welcome you to work with me to explore the power of your sound and voice for spiritual healing and grounding.
I will guide you to channel your breath and posture to release sound. In my practice, I use a Shruti Box, an instrument with Chinese and Indian roots, which produces a soothing drone sound, and is a beautiful accompaniment to the voice.
Together, we’ll create a safe and healing environment, free of judgement. We’ll have fun as we explore different sounds!
This practice asks that you allow in and welcome vulnerability.
You can use this practice to release anxiety and stress, heal from grief, and to invite in love, joy and abundance.
Imagine who you can become if you free yourself of expectations of how you should sound or how you should look.
What is a Shruti Box?
An Indian drone instrument, similar to a harmonium, the Shruti Box is a great accompaniment to the voice, as it allows the voice to be the varied sound. It comes in different sizes, and no musical knowledge is necessary to play it. The keys operate like the keys of a piano, sharps and flats.
